"Repairing Rotten Wood," the second in the Newburyport Preservation Trust's "Do It Ye Self" series, will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, 1-3 p.m., at the Perkins Mint on Fruit Street, Newburyport.

Preservation craftsman Jasper March presents the hands-on program, which includes an informative demonstration as well as the opportunity for hands-on application of the techniques. The presenter will share his knowledge and understanding of how to repair rotten wood on exterior trim, such as found on soffits and fascias; and on interior trim, such as found on window sashes and fireplace mantels. While the primary focus will be on epoxy repairs, the presentation will also address the restoration of structural members.

Presenter Jasper March, a Newburyport native, is a finish carpenter and boatwright who learned his skills under the tutelage of masters in the field, and at two years of study at the Apprenticeshop Boatbuilding School in Rockland, Maine.

The Newburyport Preservation Trust's "Do It Ye Self" series aims to educate historic homeowners --- and preservation tradespeople alike --- on common household repairs, and save them time and money. Each session presenter helps the homeowner maintain the character of historic home, while also sharing the love for their craft. Each session includes a demonstration, hands-on application, a question-and-answer period, and light refreshments.

Registration for the two-hour program is just $15.00 per person. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at the Newburyport Preservation Trust website : www.nbptpreservationtrust.org. The Perkins Mint venue for this session is located on Fruit Street, Newburyport, behind the Museum of Old Newbury.
