Preservation Week 2012
Wednesday - Sunday, May 16-20, 2012

Newburyport's Waterfront:
God, Gold, & Guns

This year's Preservation Week will be Wednesday - Sunday, May 16-20, 2012.  On the bicentennial year of the War of 1812, this year's NPT Preservation Week celebrates and commemorates historic preservation, the city's maritime heritage, and its historic wharves. Activities spanning five days will feature something for all ages and interests, including a walking tour and musket firing; expert panel discussion and rediscovered Newburyport’s wharves; the connection between the Newburyport Powder House, the waterfront, and preparation for the War of 1812; historic photo slide shows and films; and the annual Historic Preservation Awards. Activities are open to the public and most are free. For program information, see the complete schedule on our Preservation Week Page.

Preservation Week offers insight and first-hand access to the rich historic events and architecture that create Newburyport’s character and charm. Anyone who enjoys living in or visiting Newburyport, as well as history enthusiasts and historic homeowners, will find activities that the whole family will enjoy while gaining a greater appreciation for the treasures in this unique and historic community. This year's Newburyport Preservation Week is presented in partnership with Historic New England and the Custom House Maritime Museum.

Thanks to all who made nominations for our 2012 Preservation Awards. Nominations are closed for this year, and we have some fine nominations. Awards will be presented in seven categories: stewardship, exterior restoration, interior restoration, sensitive addition to a historic building, historic landscape restoration, historically sensitive contractor/builder, and sustainable historic structure.
